Attendance

The Law

All students between the ages of 6 and 18 must attend school daily. Parents or guardians are responsible for sending their children to school (E.C. 48200)

Role Of Student

A student who is absent three full days without a valid excuse, or on three occasions is tardy or absent for more than thirty minutes, or any combination thereof, is a truant. (E.C. 48260)

Role of School Personnel

On the first day of noted absence, a phone call home will be made to inquire about the child’s absence. Only the legal guardian/parent can give an oral verification of the child’s absence. Excused absences are illness – (specific illness must be documented), doctor/dental appointment, death of immediate relative.

If no parent is available to verify absence, a form note will be sent home for a parent to sign to verify the illness.

All verifications/reasons will be noted on the back of the attendance card.

In the event that telephone numbers are disconnected, a new emergency card will be sent home with the child and parents must fill out correct telephone numbers.

If a child is absent more than three (3) consecutive days due to an illness, a doctor’s note will be required.

Students with excessive absences will be tracked and the school administration will send a letter to the parents informing them of the attendance issue.

After a student has missed more than 10 days of unexcused absences, the parent will be invited to an attendance meeting. Representatives from the District will be at the meeting. Parents will be informed of their responsibility to have children attend school on a regular basis. The office will then place this student on the attendance watch list.

School administration will consult with District PSA Counselors regarding individual cases. It will be the responsibility of the school administration to alert District Personnel.

The Role of the Parent

The legal parent/guardian will ensure that each child attends school on time every day.

If a student is absent, it is the responsibility of the parent to call the school or send a note to the teacher to report the absence.

It is the role of the parent to see that their child comes prepared to learn.

Schoolwide Incentives

Students with "Monthly Perfect Attendance" will have their names displayed in the school, receive a certificate and prize.

Students with "Perfect Attendance" and "Outstanding Attendance" for the ENTIRE school year will receive an award and ribbon at the end of the school year during the Parent Awards Assembly.
